The department of Bengali Language and Literature has a long prestigious heritage and it has been working continuously to explore and expand human resource in its multifarious potentiality and manifestation by various ways of learning and Intellectual activities. The Bengali general course and Bengali honors course started in the session 1996-1997 and 2003-2004. Bengali department has been growing day by day and it is one of the oldest and largest department of Languages, not only in Alipurduar but also in the North Bengal.
The department has a Great history. The department is highly glorified for its academic brilliance achieved by the devotee teachers, like Mr. Smriti kanta Barman, Dr. Setu Chattapadhyay, Dr. Kamal Kanti Das, Mr. Swapan Kumar Sarkar, Mr. Sujit Roy and so on. Apart from its heavy academic workload and activities the department has organized many special lectures and Seminars not only on Conventional issues of Literature, but also in most of the valuable areas of Literature beyond the prescribed syllabus of different courses. interactions between the students and resource persons and network with various inter-disciplinary domains are always encouraged by the department.
It offers both Honors and Programme courses. The objective of the department is not only to make students think differently, but also to groom them in the way that enables them to connect the classroom with outer world, the knowledge of Literature with real life.
The department has never ceased to produce students, whose brilliance of merit is reflected not only by the consistent good results of the Department every year, but also from the fact that they have found their careers in various walks of life. The sources of the students and Department is constituted on the basis of a healthy and productive teacher-student relationship.
