With the establishment of our Saheed Kshudiram College in the year 1996 Environmental Studies was taught as a compulsory subject. It is also taught as a compulsory subject in the current curriculum. At present Shankar Paul is the only faculty in this Department.
Environmental Studies emphasizes on the relationship between man and the environment. The primary purpose of environmental studies is to impart knowledge about the importance of environment and to inculcate responsibility towards its protection and maintenance. Environmental Studies fosters the skills that enable the attitude and expertise to understand the natural environment, its limitations, critically and the essential ways to prevent it from harm. The subject aims to educate young people about the importance of nature and the environment. It encourages young minds to take responsibility for protecting the natural environment and to develop environmental awareness.
The objectives of Environmental studies are as follows: Creating awareness environmental problems among people. Imparting basic knowledge about the environment and its allied problems. Developing an attitude of concern for the environment. Motivating public to participate in environment protection and environmental improvement. Acquiring skills to help the concerned individuals in identifying and solving environmental problems. Striving to attain harmony with nature.
