In 2003-2004 academic year the department of Political Science Honours was introduced in the college and the pass course was initiated in the year 1996-97. Dr. Ajoy Kumar Datta was the main force behind starting the Department of Political Science in this college. As the head of the department from the very beginning till now. His efforts earned the department a wide reputation for excellence and teaching. Since its inception, the department is growing day by day.
The Department of Political Science has a long prestigious tradition and has been working tirelessly to explore and expand human resources through its multifaceted potential and expression in various modes of learning and intellectual activity. Since its inception the importance of the subject has been increasing day by day and it is one of the oldest and largest sections of the language not only in Alipurduar but also in North Bengal.
In addition to its heavy academic workload and activities, the department has organized many special lectures and seminars in areas of value for social awareness, working beyond the prescribed curriculum of various courses, not just conventional political institutions. Interaction between students and resource persons and networks with different inter-disciplinary domains are always encouraged by the department.
